I use abc soup and keywordtool.io
Basically the process is like this:
1. Check autosuggest starting from topical keywords.
2. Make a list of longtails found with step 1.
3. Check every keyword phrase from step 2 on google and seeing which has zero comp or very low comp.
4. Sort list by lowest comp (I decide that by relevance of results).
5. Write content starting from the top of the list.
